| Description |
The Hr Series is an attempt to pay homage to the anonymous carvers whose skill and eye can only be envied. Rigid devices for holding one's head evolved in several areas (Egypt, Africa, and China). As pure sculpture, some West African ones are among the most powerful sculptural forms. These are not head rests; our cutlure has soft, polymorphic pillows which serve us well. These are rather a response to sophisticated and sculptural ideas that contradict traditional concepts of sculpture; horizontal forms rather than vertical; soft objects made of hard materials; functional objects as sculpture"-- Accompanying sign by artist.
